What Is GEPCO?
GEPCO stands for Gujranwala Electric Power Company, which is a public limited company that provides electricity distribution services in Gujranwala and its surrounding areas in South Punjab, Pakistan.
GEPCO provides electricity to over 3.7 million people in six areas in South Punjab. It started in 1998 as a successor of the former Area Electricity Board. GEPCO is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the power transmission and distribution network in its area of jurisdiction.
GEPCO serves a wide variety of customers, such as residential, businesses, factories, and farms. It gets electricity from different places like the National Transmission and Dispatch Company, independent power producers, and hydroelectric power stations. Then, it sends this electricity to its customers through its distribution system.
Areas Under GEPCO
The areas covered by GEPCO are distributed among the main district and sub-district, each with its own sub-divisional office and staff. The distribution of these areas is based on the geographical, administrative, and operational factors of the power sector in Punjab.
The main objective of the distribution is to ensure the efficient and reliable supply of electricity to the consumers and to facilitate the billing and collection process. GEPCO also aims to improve the quality of service and customer satisfaction in its areas of jurisdiction.

GEPCO Peak Hours
You can reduce your Gepco bill and help stabilize the electric supply for the entire region. Gujranwala Electric Power Company recommends minimizing electricity consumption during peak hours.
From April to October, 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM, and from November to March, 6 PM to 10 PM are considered peak hours.
Month | Peak Hours |
---|---|
April to October | 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM |
November to March | 6 PM to 10 PM |
It is important to consider that electricity rates are higher during peak hours as compared with the off-peak hours. The reason for this is that the increased demand during peak hours places additional stress on the power grid, which necessitates the electric distribution company to generate or procure more electricity to accommodate the demand.
